7's EXTRAVAGAZA AND OPEN DAY

This year our Open Day is to be held on Saturday 31st July in Peel during the Traditional Boat Weekend.

We need seven crews to sail Pride of Mann II on seven days, leading up to our major Open Day.   We want all interested disabled sailors and crew members to take part.   We will also need people to help with transport, supplies, fundraising and publicity.

For more information, please contact Martin Sewell by email martinsewell@manx.net

PARISH WALK

Following on from the success of the disabled walkers in last years' Parish Walk, we could have one or more SFTD teams of four including both able and disabled members.   Team members would walk individually on the day and each team member will need their own support.

If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Ed Marshall before 31 March on ed.m@manx.net   Entries for the Parish Walk close on 15 May.   For further information go to www.parishwalk.com

23RD MARCH - NEW GROUP MEETING

We always like to give our members a chance to "have their say" and help us guide the work of the charity.   To this end, we have arranged a series of Focus Group Meetings where we can discuss topics of interest for all members.

The first meeting is to be held on Tuesday, 23rd March 2010, from 7.00 - 9.00 pm at the "Cat with No Tail", Governor's Hill, Douglas (at the junction of Johnny Watterson Lane and Hailwood Avenue).   The subject being discussed is "What sailing and social opportunities you would like to be offered by the charity?"

All members, of any age, disabled or able-bodied, are invited to attend and if you would like to come it would be helpful if you would let Martin Sewell know.   Please leave a message for him on 815922 or email martinsewell@manx.net

9TH MARCH SOCIAL EVENT-MEMORIES & YARNS FROM LOCAL FOLK

Captain David Cowell  has kindly agreed to come along to our Sailor's Supper at the Douglas Bay Yacht Club at 7.30 pm on Tuesday, 9th March 2010 and talk to us about Douglas Harbour from 1966 to present.

Following this, Les and Juan Garrett are going to regale us with stories about life on the Calf of Man.

Tickets are £8.00 each which will include a hot supper.   It should be an interesting and humorous evening and we hope everyone will make the effort to come along.

You should contact Dave Killey on davidk@manx.net or call him on 627186/mobile 409345.

Moore Stephens Isle of Man makes waves with Sailing for The Disabled

Moore Stephens Isle of Man, leading providers of multi-sector accounting, consultancy and wealth management services, has today announced its gold corporate membership status with Sailing for the Disabled. As part of its sponsorship Moore Stephens Isle of Man has given a £2,500 donation to the charity.

Ayuk Ntuiabane, director of Moore Stephens Yachting commented, We are very happy to support Sailing for the Disabled which is a wonderful charity on the Island. In fact, the Moore Stephens yachting operation has great synergy with the local yachting community. We appreciate the freedom of movement and enjoyment which being on a yacht can give to everybody and we identify with the particular efforts of this charity in providing sailing opportunities to persons with disabilities.

The Moore Stephens logo will now take pride of place on Sailing for the Disableds Pride of Mann II vessel which is based in Douglas inner harbour. She was selected for the charitys use as she required no special modifications to meet the needs of the disabled and is equipped to RYA standards. A hoist and sling on board allows easy transfer from shore to boat and down to cabin for sailors who are wheelchair users.

Speaking about the new sponsorship, Martin Sewell, fundraising manager for the charity said, We are very grateful for the support and generosity of Moore Stephens Isle of Man and are pleased to welcome them as gold corporate members of Sailing for the Disabled. Donations such as these are a crucial part of our fundraising efforts, which enable us to provide opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in sailing on equal terms with their able bodied friends in a harmonious and safe environment.
