DOUGLAS FLAG DAY

Big, big thanks from Kate and Marion to "the few" who turned out on a very foggy Saturday to collect for our Charity last Saturday.   The morning dawned with thick fog across Douglas Bay but spirits were good amongst our collectors.

The grand total for the day was £2,497, the best ever for Douglas, which averaged £100 for each collector.   Just think what we would have raised if more of you had turned out!

FLAG DAYS

Breaking News!!

Saturday June 21st  was one of the wetest days of the year and still Kate and her supporters managed to break the Ramsey record and collect £1288, well done everyone!  King,Terry our chairmans old guide dog , even did a 4 hour stint and if a person put cash in his bucket they were allowed to fuss him, King says" It was great but I did get wet, hopefully we will be dry when we collect in Douglas in July'

Katie Kimmons is coordinating the Douglas flag day so please contact her

We try to break the days up into two hourly sessions and, as always, volunteers are needed.   If you have some time to spare, will you please contact Kate by email kimmons@manx.net

Man overboard in Douglas Harbour

Prior to the departure of Pride of Mann II to the Western Isles on the annual training sail for skippers and mates, our Training Officer Rodger Clague carried out a man overboard procedure in Douglas Harbour.   With the permission of the Harbour Authorities two volunteers were put into the water,  then be lifted by three methods back on board, whilst Rodger assessed and criticised the procedure.    Arne Dahn filmed the exercise which will be used in future training of our crews.

100 CLUB

We are looking to increase the membership of the 100 Club.   With a full complement of 100 members you could win a 1st prize of £50, 2nd prize of £30 and 3rd prize of £20.

With our current membership the prizes are 1st £30, 2nd £18 and 3rd £12.   Still worth winning!

Why not contact Dave Bridson on davyb@manx.net and ask for a form.

The Queens Award for Voluntary Service -latest News-June 2008

We are highly delighted to inform all members that on June 2nd it was announced that Sailing for the Disabled in the Isle of Man was one of the 104 organizations this year to receive The Queens Award for Voluntary Service. We are especially proud to have it in 2006 being the year of Her Majesty the Queens 80th Birthday. The Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul and Lady Haddacks invited 50 of our members to Government House where he presented the charity with a Certificate and a piece of inscribed Crystal. Your chairman Alan said it was all members both able bodied and disabled for their hard work and dedication that made this award possible.   The Certificate and Crystal is presently on display in the window of Manx Marine on The Tongue, Douglas Harbour.
